Green energy generated from natural sources such as wind, sunlight and water not only helps to eradicate pollution but also provides a sustainable and low-cost solution to the pertaining energy crisis around the globe. This is the reason more, and more nations are adopting the green technology and energy phenomenon.
However, sustainable living is not only about green energy only but encompasses all fields of everyday life. Waste management is an integral part of it, especially in African countries.
According to statistics, Africa generates 125 million tonnes of municipal solid waste and 17 million tons of plastic waste a year. On the other hand, Ghana produces around 12,710 tons of solid waste daily and 1.1 million tonnes of plastic waste per year.
When we turn to recycling, statistics tell us that only 4% of waste is recycled in Africa. In Ghana, 10% of solid waste and about 5% of plastic waste is collected for recycling.
The Environment-Friendly Flush Toilet System
To embark on this journey of bringing about a positive change, The Eco-Scout Movement of Ghana has released and finished several projects. One of them is the cost-effective odourless latrine system using local materials. The project started back in 2014 at a brick factory in the Cape Coast industrial area. The architecture of these pit holes boasts a sustainable structure meant to last for years.
These are made from eco-bricks produced using cutting-edge hydraulic technology. There are numerous squat holes sporting a 1.3-meter diameter and a 3-meter depth. These are built while keeping the air current flow in mind to prevent the accumulation of odour. Moreover, they also support a design that is ideal for construction in areas with scarce water as well.
The flexible toilet facility also contains a bathing area with a “suckaway” system for water flow. The facility uses an osmosis technology which helps reduce the cost of maintenance. This brick structure is durable and protects the environment as there is minimal waste production. Not to forget, these bricks are recyclable.
Other Construction Methods to Help Protect The Environment Using Green Technology
Apart from this remarkable example of eco-friendly construction, there are many other ways we can adopt green technology and renewable energy for a sustainable lifestyle that will not only benefit us but our future generations as well.
Eco-Friendly Bricks
The accumulation of excess plastic is becoming a global problem. To cater to this, many countries have adopted the use of eco-bricks. There is no need for special labour or skills to manufacture these bricks. Making use of plastic waste reduces the emission of harmful greenhouse gases as well as their accumulation in the oceans, which is detrimental to wildlife.
These bricks are an ideal building material due to their durable and robust characteristics. Developing countries use eco-bricks to construct houses, toilets, walls, furniture, and much more to promote environmental responsibility.
The Power of the Sun: Solar Energy
Are you aware that the energy produced by the sun for just an hour can meet the energy needs of the world for up to a year?
Without a doubt, solar energy is a powerful source, and it can have a significant impact on the planet. It is beneficial for the environment and can also boost the private economy of a nation to a great extent. Photovoltaic cells produce this energy; they capture sunlight and transform it into electrical energy. From the central heating of homes to powering entire neighbourhoods, the use of this imperishable source of power is gradually picking up pace.
Not only this, but we can also use solar energy in the construction of structures for buildings such as lights, windows, and doors. Apart from sustainability and zero toxic gas emissions, solar panels are low maintenance and reduce electricity bills drastically.
Summing It Up
With the rise of green technology, new and better ways to protect the environment and promote healthy, renewable living is in developing each day. However, these changes will only work to their potential if we adopt the right mindset. We need to educate ourselves about the various problems of the world and work on finding impactful solutions to bring about positive change.

Thanks for another wonderful post. The place else could anybody get that kind of information in such a perfect manner of writing?
I’ve a presentation next week, and I’m at the
look for such info.
When someone writes an post he/she maintains the plan of a user in his/her mind that
